Since 2016 I’ve experienced a lot of practices to understand the behavior of surfaces in defining architectural elements and edges. I gradually started up a home lab to practice folding techniques. Some of my recent activities are:
• Making models of Origami Shapes and Patterns.
• Practicing fold, bend and twist techniques on hard papers by models.
• Practicing the growth of a definition by developing a technique on different situations.
• Modeling all samples of the book FOLDING TECHNIQUES FOR DESIGNERS by Paul Jackson.
• Modeling all polyhedral to conclude a better understanding of the role of surfaces in a solid.
One thing I picked from the Jackson’s book, was to build a catalogue of what we can do with a technique. I had already practiced the folding techniques but that was merely to bend surfaces. So I stared making up a bending technique catalogue. Of course, I still have a long way to go until I reach a method of creating spaces this way. But I consider it as a nice beginning.
